Linux hosting FAQs
How do I know whether I need Linux or Windows hosting?
It depends on what your website is built with, not on the computer you use. Choose Linux if your site is written in PHP - that covers WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Laravel, and most things a web designer will hand you. Choose Windows if it uses .NET or ASP.NET, MS SQL Server, or a Windows CMS such as Umbraco or DNN.

Should I buy this or your WordPress hosting?
If you are running a single WordPress site, WordPress hosting is the better buy - WordPress comes pre-installed and the plans are sized around one site.
Buy Linux hosting instead when you want several separate PHP sites on different domains under one plan, or when your site is PHP but not WordPress. Building a shop? See WooCommerce hosting.
Which version of PHP do you run?
PHP 5 through to 8, including the latest release, and you choose which version each site runs on from your control panel. You can change it yourself whenever you like, so an older application keeps working while you get it updated.
Do I get MySQL, and can I use phpMyAdmin?
Yes to both. Every plan includes MySQL databases on fast, secure dedicated database servers, and phpMyAdmin is there for importing, exporting and poking about in your tables. Each plan lists how many databases it includes and the maximum size of each.
Is an SSL certificate included?
Yes. Every site gets a free Let's Encrypt SSL certificate, so it runs over HTTPS from day one at no extra cost. If you need a certificate with a warranty or with business validation we sell those too - see SSL certificates.
Can you move my existing PHP site across?
Yes, and it's free within your first 14 days - we do the work rather than handing you a guide. Buy the plan that fits your site, tell us where it is hosted now, and our team moves it, shows you a preview, then switches the DNS. Email migrations are charged separately. More about free migration.
Do you offer unlimited disk space and bandwidth?
No, and that is deliberate. "Unlimited" is never really unlimited - it usually means thousands of websites crammed onto one overloaded server. We publish exactly what each plan includes instead. Here's the longer explanation.
What happens if I outgrow my plan?
You move up a plan at any time by paying the difference pro-rata. Nothing needs rebuilding or re-migrating, and we'll guide you through it.
Who answers when something breaks?
A professional web developer, from our office in Devon. There is no first-line script and no escalation ladder - the person who replies is the person who can fix it. We work through an online ticket system so there is a written record, and you can reach us by phone on 01803 467863.
