Domain transfer FAQs
Can I move my domain name before the renewal date?
Generally you can move your domain name at any time. The exception is that many domains do not allow a move within the first 60 days of registration. See the information for the extension you wish to transfer for any restrictions.
Will you remind me when my domain name is due for renewal?
Yes - we remind you 60, 30, 7 and 1 day before your renewal date, unless you've already renewed or have auto-renew set up. It's therefore very important to keep your contact details up to date.
I have a renewal/transfer letter from The Domain Registry of America - who are they?
It's common for domain owners to receive a letter from The Domain Registry of America as the renewal date approaches, styled to look like an invoice reminder.
Please ignore these letters - they are not from your current registrar, and they charge very high fees.
Does transferring add a year to my registration?
For most extensions, yes - the transfer adds a registration period on top of the expiry date you already have.
A few work differently and simply move the domain to us, keeping the existing expiry date. UK domains are the main example. Where that applies we say so next to the price before you add the transfer to your basket.
How long does it take to transfer a domain name?
It depends on the extension. UK domain names are almost instant once payment is verified; .com domains take up to 7 days. See the information for the extension you're transferring for the exact steps and timings.
