Yes - completely. This is one of the most common questions we're asked, so here's the full answer.
"Windows hosting" describes our servers, not your computer
When a hosting company talks about Windows hosting or Linux hosting, it's describing the operating system running on the server in the datacentre - the machine your website lives on. It says nothing at all about the computer you use.
Your website's visitors don't need any particular computer either. A website hosted on a Windows server displays identically in Safari on a Mac, Chrome on a PC, or the browser on any phone or tablet.
Everything is managed in your web browser
Your hosting control panel, webmail, domain settings, SSL certificates and billing all run in an ordinary web page. If your Mac can open Safari, you can manage everything we sell. The same goes for an iPad, a Chromebook or a phone. There is nothing to install and no Windows software involved at any point.
Email works with Apple Mail and iPhone
Our mailboxes use standard IMAP and POP3, so they set up in Apple Mail on your Mac - and in Mail on iPhone and iPad - in a couple of minutes. There's webmail too, for when you're away from your own devices.
Building or updating your site from a Mac
If you work on your website yourself, everything you'd expect works from macOS:
- WordPress, Umbraco and other CMS dashboards run in the browser.
- FTP and SFTP clients such as Transmit, Cyberduck and FileZilla upload files to our servers.
- Developers can use Git, VS Code and other cross-platform tools as normal.
So how do I choose between Windows and Linux hosting?
By what your website is built with - never by the computer you own:
- WordPress or WooCommerce - choose WordPress hosting.
- A PHP site (Laravel, Joomla, Drupal, custom PHP) - choose Linux hosting.
- .NET, ASP.NET or MS SQL - choose Windows hosting.
