Email Forwarding and Delivery Reliability

Email forwarding is supported on our email services. However, we recommend using it only where necessary, as forwarded messages can be less reliable than emails delivered directly to a mailbox.

Modern email providers such as Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo use authentication checks including SPF, DKIM and DMARC to help identify spam and prevent sender spoofing.

When a message is automatically forwarded, some of these checks may fail or no longer align correctly. This is because the forwarding server passes on a message that still claims to come from the original sender.

As a result, forwarded messages may be:

  1. Marked as spam or junk
  2. Rejected by the receiving provider
  3. Delayed
  4. Silently filtered or not delivered

These issues are largely controlled by the receiving email provider and cannot always be resolved by the server performing the forwarding.

Recommended approach

For the most reliable email delivery, we recommend:

  1. Accessing your mailbox directly through webmail or an email application using IMAP
  2. Adding the mailbox to each device on which you need to receive email
  3. Asking contacts and online services to send directly to your preferred mailbox
  4. Using forwarding only when direct mailbox access is not practical

Do not report forwarded messages as spam

If an unwanted message is forwarded to another provider, please do not mark the forwarded copy as spam.

When a forwarded message is reported as spam, the receiving provider may associate the complaint with our forwarding server rather than the server that originally sent the spam. This can damage the reputation of our mail platform and affect delivery for other customers.

Instead, we recommend deleting the message or reporting it within the original mailbox before it is forwarded.

SPF, DKIM and DMARC

Domains using email forwarding should have a valid DMARC policy configured.

Where possible, DKIM should also be enabled for email sent from the domain. SPF, DKIM and DMARC work together to improve email authentication and help receiving providers determine whether a message is legitimate.

These records cannot guarantee that forwarded email will always be delivered, but they provide important protection against spoofing and improve the general reputation of the domain.
